"DJ SNUGGLES' MIXTAPE CORNER
I get a lot of mixtapes. That is a fact, and you can ask anyone around that if anyone gets tapes, it's me. This being the case, I felt it appropriate to give some of these tapes the exposure they deserve. So this issue, I'm going to spotlight the three best tapes I've received so far this month. Keep in mind that 95% of the tapes I get are complete crap, so these truly are the cream of the crop.
DJ Trace - Black Widow (Sole Unlimited)
This one's a bit old, it was recorded live @ Cherry Bomb which was in Chicago in August. I still have to mention it because it's probably among the top five or so tapes I've ever heard. Trace is my favorite DJ both for his mixing style and his tracks, and if you've never heard him live, this is a good introduction. The tracks - what can I say, many of them are coming out right now, and some won't see the light of the day 'til next year. The mixing, you either love or hate his style, and I love it - it is the audio equivalent of him administering a beating. Tough tough tough business.
Tunes & Mixing: 100/10."
