I gave up at 7:30...
 |
on April 10 2008 14:23:32
Ok... So I went back and tried again...
The first mix was BAD, so I gave it a go on the second mix, which was where I cut it off last time (around 7:30).
I went back and continued on... AND IT GOT WORSE.
Is this set up as a joke?
Not only is it the worst mixing I have heard since Starscream live, the sound quality (DJ's fault, not the dude who encoded it) progessively became worse and worse as each record played. The bass was so cranked by the end that you couldn't hear anything but a loud crackling hum, with some trainwrecking drums in the way background.
Man... That was AWFUL.
I feel like shooting myself now that I know that there can be sets this unlistenable.
Should I try to see if I can handle side B?
NO.
I think that I'd rather just poke myself in the eye with a pencil. It's just as painful and horribly scarring, but at least the initial doesn't last the length of a cassette tape. |

Seriously... Is this a joke? |

It's no joke Arch. These are apparently some pretty classic tapes from Germany. Wicked tunes, but mixed really ruff no doubt... both are live recordings. Just trying to get Germany represented on GEJ. RIP Carl Crack. |

Weird... I've heard some damn good jungle (and jungle-related stuff) come out of Germany. It's crazy to think that such an incredible pool of talent would find this inspiring. It has damn good tunes in it, but, by the end, it's so crazy distorted that you really can't even hear them. It's just a big ball of mud. I had the bass turned all the way down, and the volume almost to zero, and it was still just a gross distorted mess.
Maybe the second side is better, then... Maybe I'll try it later. I'm open-minded enough for that.
I'm such a hater, lol.
P.S. - RIOT BEATS OWNS. Long live German jungle. |

I like the "Sons of Batman" from "TDKR" cover art, though... Nice. |

haha...yo arch. believe it or not. this tape (and actually most of the midi war tapes, incl. the carl crack's lion mc, alec empire, etc) were a HUGE inspiration for a lot of the german breakcore scene.
the distortion and anti-beat-match-mixing is part of the program. as far as i've heard they even had a special distortion module behind the mixer. and why? well, these artists just wanted to separate themselves from the classic uk rave club stlye and bringing some more punk and aggresion to the music (actually sort of origin of "breakcore" . so they put the records and totally fucked them up. in early/mid 90s berlin the people had moshpits to this sound on the dancefloors...
just try to listen to the carl crack one! there is no mixing at all. haha.
and yes - i'm also highly influenced by these tapes and still looking for some older rare ones.
Btw. talking about Riot Beats: on RB9 you also have a track by Moonraker. |

Interesting mix....I agree that the bass needs to be turned down though. Good tracklisting. |
