In 2008 Chicagoans mourned the loss of Brian Blackeye, the city's first and primary hardcore-jungle MC. To initiate the preservation of his memory in 2009 and beyond, we present the final recording of the full C.H.A. lineup: JJ Jellybean, DJ Snuggles, and MC Blackeye. These previously unreleased tapes were submitted by Dubshack and are exclusive to GoldenEraJungle.com
So it seems to me that alot of people on this site like to advocate their opinion and distaste on nu skool. So instead of filling up the Shoutbox with your lame excuses for a rant, there should be a dedicated thread for your voice.
Let me start by saying that since I live in Toronto I've witnessed first hand the progression of the nu vibe. And I hated it at first. But I gave up doing e'z at parties and stuck to herb and beer and the dark grimey beats didnt annoy me, they just started to make me wanna hype up my-self.
Jungle was allways the hard-rock-metal of the techno genre. Static, linear, rolling bass. if you think otherwise then that purist mentality of yours seems like it will limit your ability to possibly enjoy new material.
Older tracks whether they are dark, atmospheric, hard-step(yes there was a step style in 95), jump-up, ragga etc. they carry a simplistic production quality. But that hasnt been lost. You might be just too lazy to listen to quality production.
There are countless of old skool tracks that i wont bother with because they are some rmx of a good tune that some dj wanted a piece of the actions and mangled it up to be a dub or vip. I dont even wanna get into specifics, but i smell cheese just thinking about them.
Biggest issues is that there is soo many releases and music being produced since personal computers can pretty much take over the need to have a commercial studio that talent has been stretch sometimes too thin.
If anyone here had a chance to see Paradox do a live PA a couple of months ago, they know how distinct and fresh some atistis are bringing it.
I love the old skool, but I've heard alot of the tracks before again and again. And Im no way in the position to spend more then $20 for a piece of wax.
Its really nice to organize a proper site like this one to share amazing old skool sets. But to rant off that nu skool sucks monkey balls, shit you better be bringing a valid arrgument to the show. Someone said it has a repetitive beat and loop. LMAO... sounds like any amen in a jungle record since 1993. 1 2 3 4, repeat. regardless of arrangement.
Avoid using Top 10 overplayed tunes to mock as well. Same could be said about Fire. Hrmm.. hearing that being dropped 4 times in 1 night rewound each time... for fucks sake... make it stop. good tune but still.
All the innovators who brought you all the coveted jungle music we love to play out took the music to their own interpretation of what jungle/dnb can be.
There have always been sub-genres from the beggining like i mentioned before. That isnt something new in any music. But remember the family is still ONE SOUND. Nothing sounds or compares to it. Try to kick-step and skank out to house, trance, hhc, etc.
Quit the HATE cuz the scene has nothing but love 4 all.
