In 2008 Chicagoans mourned the loss of Brian Blackeye, the city's first and primary hardcore-jungle MC. To initiate the preservation of his memory in 2009 and beyond, we present the final recording of the full C.H.A. lineup: JJ Jellybean, DJ Snuggles, and MC Blackeye. These previously unreleased tapes were submitted by Dubshack and are exclusive to GoldenEraJungle.com

I dont see how putting my favourite old school down for this year really works, as my taste doesnt change much year to year with regard to the classics. As for the stuff released this year, here is my choice:
(I needed at least 10 choices, sorry about that n all)
And there are loads of others too which I cant cram in. There were some good releases on Metalheadz especially with Rufige Kru tracks making a comeback. The heavier sound is still dominated by Metalheadz in my opinion.
Its been a good year for Bassbin, one of the best labels of 2006 without a doubt. Signature and Soul:R are putting out plenty of releases. Hospital are rock solid as usual.
Newcomers are making waves, with Alix Perez emerging as one of the leaders of the liquid sound. As usual its been another good year for Calibre, with a steady flow of nice releases on various labels.
The ragga and dubwise comeback has slowed over this year, there were better tracks out last year for that side of things.
since originaljunglism posted pretty much most of the
liquid drumfunk biznass, ima gonna lean toward the dubwise
ragga that I bought this year.
he says it slowed down, i say it sped up... well atleast with Marcus
Visionary and benny page.
1) Visionary - Wikkid Man
2) DUbRock - Its A Pitty *HUGE SO MUCH I MAY RIPP IT FOR U ALL*
3) Rocksteady - Pull Up
4) Mistcal - Just a Little Herb
5) Dirty Dubs - Round One

Sped up? Nah, I dont agree there. When dubwise came in a couple of years back it dominated the record stores for ages. Everyone was at it. Calibre and Breakage knocked out most of the best dubby tracks between them. This year looking at the stuff in Chemical Records, I have to say the dubwise has slowed up. Benny Page and Marcus Visionary didnt stop making dubby tracks but I cant say I bought any yet.
Yeah, Just a Little Erb was a good tune but that was being played in 2005 and took over a year to be released. So I left it out of my list because I was trying to put down 2006 tunes. Dubwise is all good. I'd say 2004 to 2005 was the peak for that. It was a wicked sound and I'll post up a mix soon. As for a dub or ragga themed chart of the last few years, I'd say
1. Breakage - Ask Me - Bassbin
2. Breakage - Bring Back rmx - Bassbin
3. Breakage - Staggered Dub - Critical Recs
4. Breakage - So Mars - Bassbin
5. Breakage - Stoneheart - Bassbin
6. Equinox - Ital Lion Tuff Head - Intasound
7. Random Movement - Struggle to the Grave - Bassbin
8. St:Cal - Henshaw Dub - Soul:R
9. Calibre & Zinc - Flim - Bingo
10. St:Cal - Little Man - Soul:R
I left out loads that I cant remember off hand.. Also left out Just A Little Erb cos its already been mentioned.
Sweet!
Honestly, I haven't listened to any new drum n bass for at least a few years (I gave away all my dnb records to a friend who lovingly takes care of them and plays them out regularly, rather than have them collecting dust behind all my rap records. sorry, it was 6 years ago & i ran out of space for them. needed more room for rap).
But in the spirit of things, here's my top few of all time...
Splash "Babylon"
LTJ Bukem "Atlantis"
Dillinja (hell, all of 'em)
Photek "Ichi Ten Nu Ryu" & "Heavy Vibes" (we used to end every night with this one, no matter how much newer stuff we were playing & always got a rewind from California to Texas. What can I say? Everybody loves some Photek.)
Goldie "Inner City Life"
Klute "Reptile"
Lemon D "This Is Los Angeles"
Usual Suspects "The Stalker"
Dylan & Facs "Plankton"
Remarc "RIP"
Absolute Zero & Subphonics "The Code" (like a giant dark evil cloud hovering over your party)
...and a whole buch more I can't even remember, but good times...
As for this year...
The Clipse "Hell Hath No Fury"
Third Sight "Symbionese Liberation Album"
Sacred Hoop "Go Hogwild"
Sunno))) & Boris "Altar"
TI "King"
The Sword "Age of Winters"
Ghostface Killah "Fishscale" & "More Fish"
Mouth Of The Architect "The Ties That Bind"
Asunder "Works Will Come Undone"
De La Soul "Impossible Mission EP"
ISIS "In The Absence Of Truth"
and, these didn't come out this year, but i listened to them. A LOT.
Kyuss "Now Entering Sky Valley"
Neutral Milk Hotel "Aeroplane Over The Sea"
Wilco "AM"
De La Soul Is Dead
