big up zebo for droppin' into the discussion. there are some clubs in the chi that could support this event, but i think an actual party would be better for the vibe. sure, some of us put the "old" in old school, but c'mon, you all know that the old school flavor is best experienced in a dank warehouse w/ a nice soundsystem.

venue seems to be the big question here. so far i think zebo's offer on the loft space seems like the safest bet. i don't know how many legal virgin venues there are left in or around the city. as for "other" venues, i think the last thing anyone wants is to get sent home early during some fire jungle set. if anyone knows of a space that has been used before and can be re-used, then that would be the ideal situation. i know these types of venues exist in south bend, but i think in order to have this go off proper it needs to be as close to the chi as possible.

It's definitely going to be in or within 10-15 minutes of tha chi. There's no doubt about that. Zebo's loft sounds good, but I wanna hear from the admin of the site what they think. So far for the venue......to be continued. Anyone know any money saving ideas? Have sounds or lights that they would contribute? I think I'll prolly be able to drop 5 bills towards costs, but we need more peeps to contribute. Any ideas for a fund raiser? any offers to promote or design flyers?

....obviously we still need to talk more....
as I mentioned before, i've contacted some of the bigger promoters up here.....n depending on what you guys want to do.....working with them will probably solve most of the Sound, Light, vj, n flyer design issues... as well as some of the $$$ ones as well.....
wish I had more than my dj services to contribute, but as i'm unemployed......all I got is my rekkids, n word of mouth skillz

A Legal venue is definately a must though......would suck to have people like me drive 3+ hours to get turned away or party for an hour or two......

talent shouldn't be a problem. aside from having some great "old school" talent right in chicago, they also happen to be really cool guys. so getting some headliners for reasonable rates shouldn't be any problem.
as for supporting talent, i was wondering if there shouldn't be a thread for dj's who would like consideration for being booked for this event. i'm sure between existing members and word of mouth, there will be more than enough dj's willing to rock this party for free out of the love for the scene, myself included.

yeah its not a whip crack thing its more of i have two kids and a wife to take care of and that doesnt include going out to chicago from nashville. ill live vicariously through the boards and stories.

Anonymous, I'll check things out and see what's happening. But look what city you're talking about. There's almost always SOMETHING to do here. OK.......The GEJ messiah has spoken, and this is what we're thinking. Start off with a smaller event. Rudeboi, a bar like that sounds perfect. Dan (hook) is thinking simplicity and perfection is going to be key with this, and I have to agree with him. This isn't going to be a money maker, or something huge (YET), but we definitely want to show people that we know our shit, and we can show people a good time, spread the word about the site, and just have a good time and get to know some of the junglist peeps in the midwest. For anyone that doesn't live in chicago, we're thinking of a 2-3 month timeline, so no need to trip, shit will fall in place. For now, venue hunting and preparations begin. Thanks for everyone's input. This won't be possible without everyone's input & support.

although the alure of a loft is better than a bar.....maybe just me though.....tis a more intimate setting.....but establishing a location where shit can pop off on a somewhat regular basis has it's merits as well ;]
Either way though, I can't wait to see it happen.....junglists united in the new milleneum......Priceless!!!!

I wasn't trying to step on jungle toes with my first post, but alot of folk between generations here appreciate the progression of jungle in its pure forms as well as the classic tunes. It all depend on the demographic that we are going for. I for one would love to spin jungle/ragga jungle in all of my sets but am often forced to lure in people that have only heard some of the newer gems, in order to expose them to the classix. Personally I would love all of the members of this foum attend and have old school shit spun all night, it would be a refreshing change from alot of the sets that I hear put together these days. |

ok, bit of a mixup. chitownric has the hook up on the bar not me. give credit where it's due. i think setting something up @ a bar is good for now. possibly use a somewhat regular gig (bi-weekly or a monthly???) to raise awareness and funds for a bigger event (zebo's loft??? which is bigger???) later on down the road. get @ me ryan. w3rd.
