what would happen if you could travel fast enough to the point where you caught up with space in it's ever expanding existance, and you surpassed that point where in fact, space is expanding, where would you end up? (I just wanted to have the first post here. smiley)

Its because it sounds like an old hippy losing the plot on ketamine! Its not exactly an answerable question, it doesnt make too much sense. We dont even know if space exists!

I think it is a good question....nothing wrong with some thought provolking Q's....

It is good to use the brain.....and I think "Ravers" should do more of it;p

I would've replied, but I missed the original post.....

But yea.....it is an open ended question.....in a way.....but....

How it could be proven that the "entire" Universe is expanding should be questioned. Sure we can watch Galaxy's expand via the Hubble and shit, but we also know that there are these things called Black Holes.....that happen to Suck Up Everything in their vicinity.....

If one puts any creedence into thinking about the Multiverse Theories, then what if the Black Holes are regulatory agents that keep "our" Universe the same size.....so as not to impede on our neighbors....

Galaxy's and shit can expand, life can grow, but the "Garbage" is swept out thru the Black Holes to who knows where.....

Good stuff.....next Question.....The Illuminati.....NWO is in full effect, different cultures are more than happy to drop their heritage to look, act, eat, speak, n dress like Americans.....non stop war to keep us preoccupied.....mass populace is getting stupider year by year....

Let me go read Cosmic Trigger n i'll get right back to ya.......

lol. I live for convos like this. It became kind of a metaphor for my childhood because we once discussed the possibilities of this for a good hard 5 hours, and we were still unable to come to a concrete conclusion. Yeah. Speaking of conforming to what is told to us.....how about conforming to what you saw in the davinci code junglism? lol. Good times. smiley

I havent actually seen the Da Vinci Code movie or read the books so i'm not sure what you mean. My point was that we should never stop at what is right in front of our noses, but always look beyond the theories that are fed to us. That is not conforming to not conforming! lol. Arent I cool. The original question didnt make much sense imo.
Its all nonsense, nobody can prove anything, we know fuck all about the universe and time, we all have our opinions til the day we die and then everything we "know" probably means nothing. The trick is to remain humble about everything, keep an open mind beyond the realms of "reality", and listen to JUNGLE - the ultimate biological riddim.

Okay, lets see if we can work this one out...
When atoms cluster to create cells and masses, on a much larger scale objects, soil and lifeforms are made. Beyond this we have larger objects like trees, mountains etc. Beyond this comes planets, stars and our galaxy. Beyond this comes outer space. What is beyond outer space? Does the universe go on forever? Seeing as there is always something beyond everything, what is beyond space? Its hardly likely that it just stops at that, considering that there always seems to be something beyond everything. When I was a kid I used to think that the planets and universe were in fact a microscopic part of a much larger dimension. Surely the process of the universe as we know it is just repeated over and over, getting larger and larger? Maybe our universe is just one cell of many which form the dirt under a massive human's foreskin who is walking around on a giant planet in a much larger universe to which we can imagine? What do you think guys? What is beyond our universe?
Spark up a reef for this one....smiley

I just read something the other day that reminded me of this lil thread.

Apparently scientists have been able to make photons go faster than the speed of light, thus arriving before before they even left!? In other words, a way of going back in time by going forwards beating the speed of light.

Something like that anyway. I'm just gonna go look for the article.

Here we go, found it on DOA.

Scientists claim to have broken the ultimate speed record - by making photons travel faster than light.

Exceeding the speed of light, 186,000 miles per second, is supposed to be completely impossible.

According to Einstein's special theory of relativity, it would take an infinite amount of energy to accelerate an object through the light barrier.

Travelling faster than light also turns back time with bizarre consequences. An astronaut moving beyond light speed would theoretically arrive at his destination before leaving.

But two German physicists now claim to have forced light to overcome its own speed limit using the strange phenomenon known as quantum tunnelling.

They set up an experiment in which microwave photons, energetic packets of light, appeared to travel "instantaneously" between two prisms forming the halves of a cube placed a metre apart.

When the prisms were placed together, photons fired at one edge passed straight through them, as expected. After they were moved apart, most of the photons reflected off the first prism they encountered and were picked up by a detector. But a few photons appeared to "tunnel" through the gap separating them as if the prisms were still held together.

Although these photons had travelled a longer distance, they arrived at their detector at exactly the same time as the reflected photons. In effect, they seemed to have travelled faster than light.

Dr Gunter Nimtz, one of the physicists from the University of Koblenz, told New Scientist magazine: "For the time being, this is the only violation of special relativity that I know of."

Quantum tunnelling is a well known phenomenon that occurs as a direct result of the strange uncertainty which pervades nature at very small scales. It allows sub-atomic particles to break apparently unbreakable barriers.

Pretty interesting smiley

lol maybe this thread belongs in the General section.

I dont care. I want my holigram whores, and ganja replicator now or I wont be happy at all.

But really, do we really know even in what shape the universe is expanding. Is it symetical, does it border other universes'?

Mabye when we finally begin to understand "Dark Matter" will any of these questions really be answered.

That is a really interesting article OJ. I wonder if experimenting with a technology so incredibly complex could ultimately be beneficial to our society. Hell, we could end up creating something similar to "Event Horizon", which would be terrible. smiley I also watched something yesterday about a temple, or church in the UK, that they claim has a portal to another dimension inside, or maybe even multiple portals to different dimensions. I wish I could remember the name of the city. Their theory is that using the unique cubes inside that are strategically placed on the ceiling as patterns, may be a way to open up these portals. They experimented with using a bow (violin bow) and sprinkling salt on a metal pane, so they could see the different patterns that the salt made from the vibration of the salt on the pane. I'm not sure how else to put this. I guess in conclusion, what they were getting at, was that by using the unique music notes, which ultimately create unique patterns, and putting them in sync with each other, could be a way to unlock certain parallels to other dimensions, which may be inside the church. There is actually a name for the process of creating patterns using vibration, if anyone can add to this, or name the process, feel free. It's named after a scientist I believe.

first, do you believe in infinity? second, do you conceive the universe as infinite? third, what in your conception constitutes space, or is it unqualified?

Cosmic Trigger 1 is an awesome book - Robert Anton Wilson teaches you how to work your brain! For some people it might be hard to get their head around, but it's worth a read. smiley
