K so...I feel ridiculous asking this question, being someone who's listened to DnB since 95. I produce instrumental hip hop beats (Krush-esque) and have dabbled a bit into DnB but unfortunately become frustrated with redrum. I don't like taking a rex loop and cutting it up in arrange mode. Just not my style, makes me feel like I'm using Acid again. On that note, if anyone can gimme a quick, generalized idea of composing a dnb beat in redrum I'd appreciate it. Lehman's terms is my bag =D Big ups!

Yo Yo. If you wanted to do that you would have to take your drum break and cut it into individual hits and save them. Then load each hit into whatever channel you have in the redrum. It would make more sense to use recycle and mark every hit (and I mean every hit from kicks to hi hats... every little hit). I don't see how it would be like acid. I started with Acid and switched over to Reason.

What you can do is use a program such as Cubase (I use Nuendo) to sequence and run Reason with the program using the ReWire feature. Then you can load your break loop and cut and chop and the sequencer is more versatile than the one in Reason.

Let me know if you need clarification on this.

peace and respect

No, no...I think you misunderstood me. Basically my trouble lies in snare placement, hi hat placement, etc on each 16th note...everytime I try, I overkill and it just sounds like a trainwreck.

Hey, I know, what to do! Just set the lenght of a drum loop to 64 steps, and set the speed of it to 1/64. It will give you more resolution to place your drums.

Are you programming this on the actual redrum, or using the sequencer in Reason?

OK. Posted. Only up to 2:30. Working on the break after where it stops now. Think it's about time to get nasty with it. smiley The vocal sample cuts aren't finished, I usually do that last. Any thoughts, technical or not would be appreciated. Also, I don't have the best speaker arrangement (that's an understatement really considering I have 2, 6 year old gateway speakers lol). So my MAIN concern is the bassline, after I chopped it at the second break. Lemme know how that sounds please cuz I'm not sure if I overdid it with the lo-pass filter. Thanks again.

And I do meean FROM ANYONE. Anyone, that has some input is greatly appreciated. In comparison, this is like goin' to the gym. It's easier to do with a friend than it is to do alone. Fact is, I'm alone in this. I've taught myself everything I know and I'm dying for feedback. All my friends are DJ's. My love is producing. So, seriously, don't be shy...u think the snares sound shitty, u think the bassline's garbage, u think my breath stinks. TELL ME. By all means!! Bigups to anyone showin' love. It's unfortunate that where I'm from, and/or everyone I've met that has the slightest bit of knowledge in producing, is, pardon me, but a Nazi when it comes to heightening my skills. I like to think I have a very good general knowledge in music composition. I played trumpet for 5 years and it helped a lot. From the gate, when I started listening to DnB/jungle, I knew when there should be a break/drop but the fact is I'm always doubtful of my own abilities because I don't get feedback. Don't be shy, help me out. This thread needs to have more input cuz I know out of 1,779 "registered members"...there are atleast 100 producers. Fill this thread. Show some love. All I see is Zebo helpin' ppl out and big ups to him for taking the time. C'mon people...DnB will die without producers. SHOW SOME LOVE. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL THING WE HAVE GOING HERE. IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT MIXTAPES AND FLASHBACKS. IT'S ABOUT THE PEOPLE. THE LOVE. THE COMMON INTERESTS OF PEOPLE WITH WONDERFUL TASTE IN MUSIC. CORNY AS IT SOUNDS, HELP FRONT THE FUCKIGN REVOLUTION. THIS WILL DIE WITHOUT HELP. KEEP IT LIVE!!!! Mas respect to all u mfers with a dying joy for this thing we call Junglistizm. I've had a few thread replies/convos with you, but BIG SHOUTS to Zebo. You're a HUGE help and a wonderful soul. BIG-BIG-BIG-BIG UPS! Thanks, fuckers. Don't take this lightly. Take it to heart. Do you wanna see what WE love die? No, you fucking don't. SO KEEP IT GOING!!! Have patience. Write poetry through beats. Don't be shy. I was HORRIBLE from the gate. Fact is...shitty DnB is better than no DnB...It's ALL beautiful. Big thanks to anyone that really feels what I'm saying. We love this. We seem to live this. Let's enjoy this and keep it live. KEEP IT FUCKING LIVE!!!!!!

2 Die Verse Soul: I've downloaded your track. First of all: don't kill us, please! There are only small count of people, who can download 25 Mb file. So, you should compress it. You can use the Lame codec to convert a WAV file into an MP3. You can use Lame as standalone application(command line) or attach it to audio editor such as Audacity(it's free). About the tune. I am not a professional and I can't judge, so the following is only my humble opinion:
I like the drums! Breaks are good! But baseline is little bit dull. Sometimes, sound space is too clean, so you can add extra synth's ( i.e. to fulfill the baseline) or ambient noises(like in Krinjah's tune Angel - interesting crowd sounds). Vocal's sounded good, but there wasn't much of them - that's sad.
Good tune smiley
I wish you a good luck!

Yeah I'm working on a melody and some atmospheric shit as we speak. Like I said, the vocal cuts aren't finished, I do that last. That track is only 8 hours of work so far. "Small counts of people that can download 25mb files"? Uhh dunno how that is. I'm an audiophile so I like wav format especially when I'm asking questions about the quality of sound. Thanks for listening.

Die-I like what you've done w/ the tune. I like the drum line but yeah, I think it could use soem more background. Or maybe take it in a different direction at some point. I can't even get this damn program installed into my PC.
