I've been meaning to give this one a read for quite some time, haven't imported it just yet. Looks like a great book, even if just to get a general idea of what was going on at the time especially for those early (93-95) years. Is the book mainly about the early times, or is it all encompassing (beginning to present day)? |

Its about the culture from the beginning up until the book was released a few years back. I know it got updated and re-released at least once. Belle-Fortune is a bit eccentric but he documents going to parties from the acid house days onwards. You can tell the book is written by a raver rather than some journalist looking in from the outside. Its the best journal of the scene from a junglists point of view, and there are some great photos. Some twat pinched my copy so I'm gonna have to buy it again, but it might be harder to get so easily now because i think they stopped printing copies a while back? The best place to try is the WHSmith site where you can order it, but it might take some time. I dont know if they ship outside the uk.
Good luck chaps

I'm not sure if you've heard of the BBC Radio 1 show "1 in the Jungle", but Brian Belle Fortune was person who came up with the idea and put it to the bosses at the BBC. The BBC is a hugely old fashioned organisation and a bunch of prude government types, so bringing a load of presenters such as Donavan Badboy Smith, MC Navigator etc along to host the show was a miracle! They used to get high on the show and it was a real "up yours" to the same government that were trying to ban the rave scene. We got in the back door of the lions den! Back in the day I used to tape all the shows every friday night, they were the junglists bible at the time and the only way to hear all the new tunes for people who didnt live in the major cities. So yes, the guy who wrote All Crew Muss Big Up is a legend.

have you still got any of ur One in the Jungle recordings mate?
theres a mix thread on here somewhere, was a while back so most, if not all of the links will be dead, but no-one seems to have much of the original '95 pilot series apart from the brockie & shy fx shows. |

Me and my friends used to tape every show, usually on the same old gooey tape over and over again, and listen to them while having mass weed sessions. Over the years they got lost, along with every tape pack I've ever had. I also had hundreds of flyers from events right the way through the 90's which got thrown away, nicked or lost. I've moved around alot and met a lot of thieving ravers! So no I dont have a single 1 in the Jungle recording, much to my dismay. If only I'd have known how valuable they'd be to me now. Let me know if you find a source!
Safe mate
