to me, equinox & breakage don't even make the same style of music as soundmurderer (& his planet mu record is the worst thing to judge him by!), so comparing them is a bit like apples & oranges imo.
those (e& are two of the very few contemporary dnb artists i can actually listen to & enjoy on occasion (trance is fuckin beautiful), but a lot of their tunes bore me. if you like their amen tunes though, i suggest checking out some of asc's stuff like windchime/2019/silver breeze.
squarepusher owns all, & he draws as much if not more from jazz as from jungle.

if i remember right, he wouldn't release mercymercymercy "out of respect for stada," although from what i've experienced of stada i have a very hard time imagining he would have a problem with it. don't think he gave me a reason for not wanting up to jah released but i'd guess it would be a similar sentiment toward demolition man. |

Dun know, Calibre is pure soulful. Probably the most consistent producer out there right now.
Jollydapper, if you like that set, try out my mix. It's full of Calibre tunes!

It's always hard to find Calibre sets, he claims he's not really a DJ and that his skills lie in the studio, so its always hard to source his mix sets. With his side of d&b, there is always an emphasis on bringing fresh new tunes to the table. I could upload a few older sets by Calibre, but any Calibre fan would've already heard the tracks in those a million times, I really want to upload some brand new sets by him. If anyone can source some that would be great.
Jollydapper, have you tried those Alix Perez mixes yet? If you like the soulful sound of Calibre, anything by Alix is highly recommended. He's snapping at the heels of Calibre right now, and is the first real contender to have the skills to knock Calibre off the liquid d&b throne. Check his mixes out, especially the 1Xtra one.
Peace

DnB in general is so shit now .
I loved jump up, think of jump up in around the 98-2001 mark, absolute fire. I guess I just didn't realise what I had when it was around then, listening to pirate stations on saturdays at winter in London, with the nights coming in early, REAL underground music. Now listen to a pirate dnb station on a saturday evening and see what you get
I think the last jump up tune I liked was Zen - Rhubarb and Custard and that was about 2 years ago, thats really a sign of how shit things are. |

Well, jump up is absolutely shite now, with Clipz and co all making fucking bland disposable kids music that sounds like a ringtone. It really is a fucking joke!! You're right, d&b has been swamped with this crap and now it is generally pretty shit.
But don't lose faith, there are always artists out there keeping it real. You just have to know where to look.

Wicked thread by the way. This is what DnB is all about, raw, undiluted tunes. |
