INTRODUCTION Firstly & foremost we would like to wish all our readers A Very Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year! This year has gone so quick, a few ups & a few downs, but all in all a very good year for the dance music scene. We have seen the music in general progressing to higher levels & 90% of most new releases have been excellent. Attendances at events have increased – due to promoters spending more money on security, production, DJ line up's & lighting to ensure that every punter has a top night out & doesn't get ripped off! Dodgy promoters who rip people off will no longer be able to get away with it! We will personally see to that – if anyone who reads our magazine feels they have been ripped off – we want to know so we can expose any promoters who may still be doing this. QUESTION: What's going to happen to The Scene in the new year? ANSWER: We have made plans to become one of the leading dance magazines in the UK. Our first step was to provide the dance music public with six free issues of our magazine. This will have happened by the 1st January 1995, with a distribution of 15,000 copies per issue – which so far has only been distributed in the South of England. Our next step is to increase the magazine to over 40 pages with 16 pages of full colour & increase the distribution to 20,000 copies. To achieve this we will be moving into Northern Dance Music Shops. We are not going to charge £1.60 or £1.95, but 50 pence per copy to cover our administration & Staff costs. To Subscribe see page 34 WHERE YOUR 50p GOES 20p GOES TO THE STOCKIST 20p GOES TOWARDS OUR PUBLISHING & ADMINISTRATION COSTS 10p PAYS FOR THE DISTRIBUTION QUESTION: What will be in the new Scene Magazine? ANSWER: Top Jungle/Hardcore & Drum & Bass DJ Interviews Top House DJ Interviews Top Record Label Profiles Proper event Reviews Seductions Hardcore Column (The Sex God Himself) Top Record Shop Reviews Dr S. Gachets Jungle & Drum & Bass Column (Monthly Medication!) Graham Gold's House & Garage Column (Kiss FM In The House) The Unique Flyer Service (See February Issue!!) The Best Competition Page with the Best Prizes (Oh Gosh!!!) Auntie Trisha's Problem Page (The Agony Aunt of the House Scene!) + Much, Much More & It's Only 50p!! We want to get things straight! We are here for our readers & will go to great lengths to protect their interests. We will not print biased articles & claim to be unbiased! We will not lie & pretend to be honest! We respect all good music magazines who print the facts & not the fiction, but unfortunately there are some money grabbing people in our industry who claim to be in it for the love of the scene! What a load of crap! The people who are involved in our Scene who put on events, run lazer & lighting companies, own sound systems, own venues, DJ or MC do it to make a living! Remember to the everyday person – The Scene is a way to enjoy & express yourself through dance music – for us it is a career & most certainly a way of life. Anyone who says otherwise is waffling! Would you do work for nothing? If so contact The Scene – we will give you a job! If not – you know the point we are making! If this is your first copy of The Scene Magazine we would like to take this opportunity to tell you a bit about us: We are backed by Turbo Promotions, the largest Flying Company in the South of England. We work for nearly all the UK's top dance music promoters & have been established for well over 2 years! A massive respect & thanks to all promoters, friends & family for your support over the last years – without you none of this would have been possible! Until the next issue – look after yourselves – THE EDITOR THE SCENE MAGAZINE

Brandon Block His close friends in the House scene know him as Randy Brandy or Harry the Bastard, if you don't know Brandon Block will do just fine! We set out on this fine winters night talking about what Father Christmas was going to bring us & that we hope we don't get any cheap aftershave or any more handkerchiefs this year & then we arrived at the home of Brandon Block for an exclusive insight into his DJ career. BB: I mostly buy my records from Sean at Naked Records in Wealdstone, Middlesex – although I do get a lot of records sent to me. Scene: What DJ's do you rate? BB: All of the top bod's, but I still take my hat off to the man who first inspired me – John Jules. Scene: Do you like live percussionists over your set? BB: If they are in tune with the music I'm playing! Scene: How often do you play out a week? BB: About 5 times per week on average, I am resident at The Gardening Club, Up Your Ronson & F.U.B.A.R. Scene: When was your first big break? BB: Carl Allen from Zig Zag was doing a Thursday night at The Broadway Boulevard in Ealing & gave me a spot! Scene: What Promoters do you like working for? BB: Any that haven't got there head stuck up their arse! Scene: What's the most embarrassing moment you've had as a DJ? BB: Falling asleep behind the decks at F.U.B.A.R. & when I stood on the decks at The Haven Stables & broke everything. Scene: And what's been your funniest moments? BB: The things mentioned above & some weird alien occurances – sources unknown! (Whatever you say Brandon!) Scene: What do you thing of the current House & Garage scenes? BB: Absolutely great! & it's here to stay! Scene: Why do you think you've been successful as a DJ? BB: I can play good music – what the crowd wants & I do play for the crowd. Play it well & be original & don't get disheartened! Scene: Plans for the future? BB: I would like to do more studio work & keep going in the direction I'm going. DID YOU KNOW? Brandon's favourite type of underwear is strippy! His morals are sex, drugs & Garage & House! Well, we can't argue with that! SPREADLOVE At The Gass Club – Every Sunday Night 11pm-6am Review by: ÉL TÉL "On a Sunday night, where do you go? Me, personally I like to rub shoulders with celebrity's, meet attractive young women – dance till 6am in the morning to the finest Underground House Music in London town! Where is this place I hear you ask? It's the Gass Club, Leicester Square – don't wear trainers & dress up smart & you too can share the spread love experience." The people who run this tasteful night are Andy, DJ Dominic & John, they have been doing The Gass Club every week since February of this year & ever since they opened the doors at The Gass, they regularly turn away between 50 & 100 people every Sunday. The DJ line up is DJ Dominic, The Hermit, Norris Windross, Steve Flight & Darryl B take it in turns to warm up The Gass on a Sunday. The promoters always have a guest slot between 1.30 am-3.00 am – the likes of Nigel Benn, Linden C & Dave Commacho can be seen to name but a few on the decks on this regular Sunday night. The price is only £5 for members (membership is only £1!!) or £7 for non-members. We asked John why he thought the night had been successful & he said that there hasn't been any trouble at the club – which is probably due to the fact that alcohol is not on sale, the music policy is excellent & the security who they use are tight but right. Andy & John have worked together back in 1989 with Centreforce FM & used to run a club called "The Pink Toothbrush" in Rayleigh, Essex – DJ's were Grooverider, Rhythm Doctor & Two DJ's from the radio station. This was the first house club in Essex & attracted massive weekly crowds & stayed busy for 1½ years which led them onto The Goldmine Club in Canvey Island, Essex, from there they started Clink Street in London in 1990. These are the main promotions that Andy & John were involved in before The Gass Club. Q: Going back to The Gass Club John, what V.I.P.'s do you get in your club? A: We get actors from Eastenders & The Desmonds, Maria Whittaker, Nigel Benn, Keith Thomas, Ian Wright & Ryan Giggs to name but a few! In the words of the three wise men "Blinding Birds, Diamond Geezas, Spanking Sounds". The Scene Magazines opinion: Security (95%) Sound (90%) DJ's (95%) Venue (80%) Crowd/Atmosphere (90%) Overall rating 90% – very good security – crystal clear sound system – wicked bass bins – all DJ's played music for the people, we got in the club at 1am & everyone was jumping up & down until the last record – venue needs to be bigger so they can get more people in – atmosphere was electric & there was no bad vibes in this party – only the right vibes! Check it out this Sunday – be there early! Many thanks to John, Dominics & Andy for your hospitality – Good Luck for the future – ÉL TÉL! Watch Out for Spreadlove's V.I.P parties on Christmas Day Night & New Years Day Night

GALAX-E At the New London Astoria on Saturday 12th November 1994 – Brought to you by Freedom To Dance! Review: Terry Turbo Galax-E's concept was first thought up by Kiss 100 FM's Marketing Director – Malcolm Cox – way back in 1993. There first event was at the Cafe de Paris last Christmas and attracted well over 700 people, which in itself was an outstanding achievement. At this time Nikki Smith was running the night, it soon became too much work for her as she was also involved in 'Peach' & 'The satellite Club' – so Danny Williams & Rob Blake teamed up to run the Galax-E events. At this point Rob & Danny decided to change the look of the Flyers & the DJ line up to make Galax-E a more underground event. They then formed a promotions company called Freedom to Dance which are responsible for Fruity at Legends every Friday & the Back 2 89 & 91 parties which were held at The Astoria recently. Earlier this year Galax-E put on two events over the Easter period, one was at the SW1 Club & the other was at the Cafe de Paris – both events were packed solid & people were turned away! After this they knew that they needed a bigger venue which led them to The Astoria. Other promoters have tried to stage House & Garage events at The Astoria & none of them have attracted a large crowd – until Galax-E arrived! We got to the venue at 11pm – there was a long queue around the building, when we finally got in we were greeted by at least 1400 party people who were a more mature crowd – older, clued up & a very sexy crowd! The DJ line up was second to none. Graham Gold, Rob Blake, Dean Savonne, Pete Wardman & Spencer Broughton who played an excellent warm up set. We thought every DJ played over well & every DJ was introduced by the Master of Ceremonies which let everyone know who was playing – a nice touch to the evening! At 1 o'clock the live PA came on "Hyper Go-Go" who were on top form & went down a treat with all the Galax-E crew. After the PA – Rob Blake (The Marathon Man) came on & got the place rocking. (Incidently if you wondering why he's called The Marathon Man, it's because he used to play at 3rd Bass which was at Shaftesburys & for no fault of his own he used to play 4 to 7 hour DJ sets! I bet he drinks Carling Black Label!). Pete Wardman followed & played his usual uplifting set then Graham Gold came on last & tore the place up, he got a massive crowd response all through his set – T for tremendous Graham! One good thing about Galax-E was there DJ's all played for the crowd & not for themselves which made the atmosphere electric! The sound & lighting in the venue was to the highest standard, the music was upfront as well as old skool – the main thing was everything that was played you could dance to – no boring & moody crap being played at all! Watch out for Galax-E's next event at the Wag Club, Soho – New Years Eve – it's going to be a roadblock – you have been warned! One of Galax-E's resident DJ's Rob Blake has been playing for over 4½ years now & has played for other promoters like Club UK, Leisure Lounge & The Ibiza Reunion to name a few – if you would like a demo tape of Rob Blake or you would like to book him ring (0850) 217472. THE SCENE MAGAZINES OVERALL OPINION OF THE GALAX-E EVENT:- The Venue (86%) DJ's & Sound System (95%) Lighting & Production (90%) Atmosphere & Crowd (100%) Security (75%) Our overall rating was Excellent – 89% (Definitely 100% value for money!) The next Freedom to Dance event is a Back 2 89 party which is at The Astoria on the 10th December. DJ's on the night will be – Trevor Fung, "Evil" Eddie Richards, Colin Favor, Phantasy, Rob Blake (The Marathon Man), Brenda Russell, alongside MC Free & Easy. This is definitely one not to miss – bringing back all the old anthems & vibes of 1989 – what a year!

voodoo magic 5 On Sunday 29th October saw the return of Voodoo magic at the Equinox. We arrived at the venue at 4 o'clock to meet loads of people eagerly awaiting the opening of the doors. When the venue opened at 4.30 after various sound checks and what have you, the people were let in and greeted by friendly but tight security. After doing all that and handing in your tickets, you were hit by an amazing sound system which took only one listen to blow you away. The first D J to start off the night was Andy C, who absolutely ripped down the place with well known tracks and plates, which had to be heard to be believed. M.C. Five O also had to be heard to be believed, as he got the place rocking with rhyme after rhyme floating right off his tongue. Sitting near to the front of the entrance I could see how tired everybody was as they entered, but that soon changed as they were welcomed in by def beats and breaks. The next DJ up on the decks was L.T.J. Bukem who played his usual intelligent style of music, which wasn't for the people who didn't have the knowledge, "if you don't know get to know" – as quoted by M.C. Five O, and from what I could see everyone did know. The next to step up in the arena was the one like Dr S. Gachet, who was also on top form that night playing his weight in gold of the best Jungle. By this time M.C. GQ had turned up to make the place explode with his lyrical style, proving that when it comes to M. Cing he wins hands down. Congratulations to the Voodoo Magic cru for putting together a production well worth paying £11 for. A big shout out to Justin, Steve, Rob and everyone else at section 5, Andy C, Gachet, Bukem, Fabio, Grooverider and Randall, M.C. Five O and the legendary GQ. Big respect to Terry Turbo and everyone else at Turbo. Get well soon Minty – 10/10 – By Turbos' Seanicus!! P.S. Watch out for Voodoo Magic PT4 on Christmas Day Night from 12am till 8am Boxing Day morning. DANCE TRANCE The Sanctuary, Milton Keynes. Friday 11th December 1994 Review: Ade B. When we first picked up a flyer for this event we thought what a wicked line up, two arenas of the UK's finest DJ's – at The Sanctuary, Milton Keynes for only £15!! A much better price than most other events at The Sanctuary ranging from £16 to £25.Micky Lynas who is the promoter of Dance Trance hasn't put on an event for about a year, & wanted to keep his name on the ravers map! The event was promoted well over several weeks so we went down to check it out!We arrived at the venue at 11pm, there wasn't a very long queue & we gathered from that, that the rave itself wasn't as busy as most other events there! This was due to the amount of large events on through the November period. At an estimated guess we'd say about 1,000 ravers attended Dance Trance which was very disappointing for the promoter – we know that a lot of hard work had gone into this party! On the better side all DJ's, MC's & dancers turned up & performed very well, the sound, lighting & production was second to none! The crowd were having it major & all in all we felt that it was a good party. If you didn't attend this party – make sure you attend the next one – it was well worth £15! THE SCENE MAGAZINES OVERALL OPINION OF DANCE TRANCE Atmosphere & Crowd (60%) The Venue (75%) DJ's & Sound System (85%) Lighting & Production (85%) Security (70%) All in all 75%! Watch out for there next event – coming soon!

Interview
The Versatile DJ Swan-E - Interview We are on our way to Luton! The home of Lorraine Chase, Luton Airport (Who-eee-Who!) & of course, DJ Swan-e. We arrive at his 10 bedroom mansion & commander Bond hurries us through to the swan chamber, where there is a set of decks & a recording studio, here comes the Swan-E. Hello Swan-E how's it going? I'd just like to say one thing "Goodnight & Thank you very much" (In a TV presenters style voice!). Everyone erupts in a fit of Hysterics! What's you real name and age? My name is DJ Swan-E, only the captain & close associates know my real name! my age is 21ish! Where does the name Swan-E come from? It's something I've grown up with over the years! Everyone calls me Swan-E. How long have you been a DJ? I've been playing for 11 years. When I started off, I was playing soul, Raregroove, a bit of Hip Hop, then I got into playing house & now I'm playing Jungle, Drum & Bass, Hardcore or House, whatever the promoter wants. How did you become a DJ? I started off with E.F.M. The Elite Funk Masters. We were 3 DJ's and played out together. then when the House scene came along, we all went our different ways. Have you ever seen a fully grown man naked in a Turkish prison? & Do you know Lorraine Chase? No, I don't know Lorraine & I haven't been to any Turkish prisons! Have you got a nickname other than Swan-E? yes, I'm Known as Lovejoy when I wear my Black Leather Jacket! Commander Bond is himself; Ellis D is the Captain. The story behind this is that he speaks to so many different people, he forgets their names so he calls everyone captain. Now its really took off! Over half the country are saying Yes captain! No Captain! Big respect to Ellis D for being the original Captain Maker! Have you ever done any Radio Work? Yes!, They are all Pirates, Pressure 101.5FM; Drive FM, Tower radio FM. Have you any favourite promoters you like working for? Pandemonium, Desire, Dreamscape, One Nation, Helter Skelter, Heat, World dance & all of Europe! What do you think of the Scene at present? I think its firing at the moment, all the parties I've been playing at have been rammed! The music is also excellent at present. Where do you buy your tunes from? I go to Blackmarket, Unity, Lucky Spin, Wired for Sound, Vinyl Distribution & De Underground! What's been you funniest & most embarrassing moment? I was standing at the back of the stage at one of the Fantasia Events. I stepped back & someone had taken part of the stage away, So I fell down a big hole!! Luckily I grabbed hold of my mate & he nearly fell down the hole with me. Luckily we both escaped Injury! Do you like an MC over you set? I don't mind as long as they have something good to say & Don't waffle on & chat over my mixing! Plans for the future? To conquer the world! (Swan-E laughs) Finally, any shouts? All the road crew:- Steve, Jimmy, Terry. Big up Grooverider, Mickey Finn, Jumping Jack Frost, Ellis D, Randall, Stix, Deckland (Double Deckers), Murray, Dreamscape, Phil+ Mick, Desire, Dave - Helter Skelter, MC GQ, Mc Flux, Mc Free & Easy, & all of the people I've missed! Many Thanks for your time Swan-E, Big Up the Luton massive, especially young Terrance! Over & Out! REVIEW: TERRY TURBO THE SCENE MAGAZINE

Interview
Kemistry & Storm After a short drive to North London we looked up Kemistry & Storm a well established double act who have been DJ-ing for a number of years! Here we have an exclusive look into the World of the Hardstep Ladies! – DJ Interview By Jay Scene: What are you real names? K&S: Jayne – DJ Storm & Kemi – DJ Kemistry. Scene: How did you get your DJ names? K&S: When Kemi first started she was going to be called Special K but unfortunately there was already a DJ of that name. Her father is a mad bio-chemist, so she thought Kemistry would be a good name & stuck with it! When Jayne started she was known to have stormy tantrums & decided on the name of DJ Storm! Scene: How did you both meet? K&S: We met at college in Kettering, Northants about 11 years ago. When we first started DJ-ing there was originally 3 of us – 2 girls & 1 guy. We were known as Mach-3 then! After a while we split up & Kemistry & Storm were formed. Scene: Where was your first big break? K&S: Our first big break was at the Lazerdrome for Innersense. We got a booking after sending them a tape! We are now getting regular work from Innersense. Scene: Have you made any records to date? K&S: Yes! We've done a tune called Signature which was featured on Enforces 6 & 7 on Re-inforced Records. Scene: What inspired you to become DJ's? K&S: We used to go to Rage every week at Heaven & heard the likes of Fabio & Grooverider playing – we adored the music & decided then, we wanted to make music our career. Scene: What DJ's do you personally rate? K&S: Doc Scott, Randall, L.T.J. Bukem, Peshay, and Andy C, Fabio & Grooverider, DJ Lee. Scene: Do you listen to any other types of music? K&S: No, we are totally obsessed with the Drum & Bass style of music. Scene: Have you done any radio work? K&S: Yes – we have played on the following: Defection FM, Touchdown FM & Underground FM. Scene: Where do you buy your records from? K&S: We normally get up on a Sunday & go to various car boot sales where you can pick up some tearing vinyl! Alternatively if we can't get what we want we go to Blackmarket, Section 5, Lucky Spin or Record Basement in Reading! Scene: Are there any venues or promoters you especially like to play for? K&S: Sonja & Ryan from Innersense, Shane from Innerbase & Phil from Desire. Scene: And your current views on the scene? K&S: It's been quite an unsettled year, but we feel that after Christmas the Drum & Bass side of things will really become big! Scene: Why do you think you've been successful? K&S: People say that our style of music & DJ-ing is different from all the other DJ's out there at the moment & because were a couple of hot chicks!! Scene: What job's did you have before becoming full time DJ's? K&S: DJ Storm was a Therapy Radio Grapher & DJ Kemistry was a Make-Up Artist. Scene: What's been the funniest thing that's happened to you when you've been playing out? K&S: We was playing at a dimley lit club once & our driver was at the bar & a guy walked up to her & asked her if that was her boyfriend on the deck's, she explained we were 2 girls – this guy came up & looked at us & when he realised he was really apologetic. It's quite funny – when we are out – people often mistake us for DJ groupies – we are not groupies! We are DJ's! Scene: If anyone wants to book you, how would they go about it? K&S: Call Groove Connection on (071) 738-6356. Scene: All our readers are probably wondering what you want for Christmas – can you please tell us what you want from Santa Clause? K&S: Storm wants a set of Plates (not dinner plates!) & a new set of needles (not the pine type!). Kemistry wants all the usual stuff mentioned above – both girls want lot's of undies? But no cheap perfume, no soap on a rope, no Newberry Fruits & No Handkerchiefs!! (Apparently Santa has the address – so get on the case matey!) Scene: And finally your shouts? K&S: Goldie, all Groove Connection crew, Re-inforced crew, the Underground crew, Bukem, Peshay & The Good Looking Records crew, all Rupert Massive, Innersense Massive, McRage & Underground FM crew, Ash-A Track, Quayside, Toby & Hass, Nicky The Cab Lady, J.P. Well ladies thanks for your time – best wishes – until next time! Interview: Ade Le Barron THE SCENE MAGAZINE

AUNTIE TRISHA'S PROBLEM PAGE You've heard of Claire Rayner & Dear Deidre - well forget them because we have employed the Queen of all the agony aunts "Auntie Trish" - she is here to give you the most unhelpful & most stupid advice to your problems - so if you've got a problem & want to be in with a chance of winning an 'Auntie Trisha solved My Problem' T-shirt then send us your problem - may the best letter win! Dear Auntie Trisha, P.O. Box 107, Camberley, Surrey, GU15 4ZE. A message from Trisha:- Alright Boys & Girls! Have a Happy Christmas & A Merry New Year! (Or is it the other way round??) Thanks for all your letters, Keep them coming!! Dear Auntie Trisha, I am a 13 year old boy & I want my parents to buy me a computer for christmas, I also want a Gucci Watch, A new fishing rod, A Muddy Fox Mountain Bike, a Mega CD Games System, A New Hi-Fi, A Surround Sound Television & Radio & some Giorgio Armani jeans. They say I'm being unreasonable, but I'm Not! Tell them Auntie trisha! Yours Anthony Bratt Auntie Trisha Says : What tight bastards for parents you've got Anthony! you poor little Cherrub, how could they deprive a child of essential things that you need for everyday life?? Give them one last chance & then threaten them with Social Workers- This normally works. Dear Auntie Trisha My name is Leroy & I'm an addict. I have tried to seek counselling but nobody understands my problem, you see, I am addicted to coleslaw. I can't walk past the dairy counter at the supermarket without filling my trolley to the brim with the stuff. I am currently eating about 25-30 tubs a day. If I'm not hungry, I roll it into a joint, or snort a few spoon fulls. Things have become so bad now, I've turned to crime to pay for it - only you can help me. Yours desperately Leroy. Auntie Trisha says: Leroy, it's nothing to worry about! You are not alone in your coleslaw addiction. There are thousands of people who fall into the coleslaw trap! What I can't understand is how the government can still allow coleslaw to be legal. Unbelievably you can still buy coleslaw from supermarkets & fast food shops. The people who sell coleslaw are evil monsters, they just don't realise what damage they are doing to Society. I'm so sorry to hear that you are turning to crime to pay for your addiction. Read Auntie Trisha's Leaflet "Coleslaw - how to beat it & not eat it". Being addicted to coleslaw is a psychological thing - I know because I too was once a coleslaw addict! In my booklet there are special coleslaw counsellors who you can contact. Good Luck!! Dear Auntie Trisha, After being raving for many years, the other week I watched Star Wars after a night out with my friends! Ever since strange things have been happening to me. I keep hearing voices calling me "Luke" & telling me to "use the force". I have told my friends Han. Chewbacca & Princess Leila that I think Star Wars may be a premonition about the future & they asked why? When I explained to them about hearing strange voices, they told me that their names were not han, Chewbacca & Princess Leila, then they all laughed at me & said that I should lay off the gear and seek professional help about my problem! I then used the Jedi mind trick on them & they agreed that Star Wars could be a premonition about the future! What is happening to me!?! Am I the 1994 version of Luke Skywalker or am I off my trolley. Anonymous. P.S. Can you give me directions to the Dagobah System, or can you give me Yoda's phone number? Auntie Trisha says: 'Cor blimey love! What have you been on? Love a duck, Quack! Quack! I know I'm Auntie Trisha but I ain't no bleedin space-age timelord that can solve futuristic problems-Try mystic peg or someone with a space age timelord sounding name. Alternatively you could go into Pun Lolly, they are doing cheap return fights to Hoth & The Endor moon, the choice is yours! If you book now you might get 10% off!!! Dear Auntie Trisha My mother-in-law was a witch! She lived with me & my wife. She nagged & moaned at me constantly for the twenty years that she lived with us. She never let me watch football or action films, she made me do the washing up every night & take the dog out. Everything I did was wrong & she thought she was always right. Eventually I couldn't take any more, so I killed her, hacked up her body, put it in a bin liner & threw it in the Thames. Do you think I over reacted? Yours, Norman Bates. (Address Withheld) Auntie Trisha Says: What you have done is basically- over reacted to a typical mother-in-law situation. The best thing to do is forget about it & make sure you don't send any more of these letters to anyone else with you name & address on it! You could face Life imprisonment for that, you silly boy! Don't let this happen again or we might have to tell the police where the bates motel is! THE SCENE MAGAZINE

NASA The idea and concept for NASA was launched in December 1993 after along time researching and sourcing the idea. The reason that we became involved with clothing was because we felt that had to be an alternative to current clothing trends on the market. I was frustrated that so many companies were either portraying characters smoking spliff or various other brand names without to much of a meaning. We at NASA believe in positive thought and actions i.e live your life with a NICE AND SAFE ATTITUDE. Believe in what you do and believe in the ripple effect of life. If you throw a good pebble into the pond of life the ripple will in turn hit all banks. At NASA we are dedicated to positive clothing and actions. There are currently three slogans for NASA - NICE AND SAFE ATTITUDE - NEED A SUMMER AWAY - NICE AND SAFE ATMOSPHERE. All of these variations are a true reflection of the trends of the 1990's and the dance scene. We believe that anyone who wears our clothing shares these views. Our clothing is designed primarily for the street and club wear market. We believe that the dance movement that has taken place since 1989 was and is changing peoples attitudes to not only themselves but to others as well. Dance music has and is always changing with a tremendous variety of music available. Having been involved with the scene since 1990 we have witness a change in peoples attitudes and trends - a much more positive outlook aswell as direction - inhibitions and predjudism are being dropped as more and more walls and barriers come down. Our mission at NASA is to be able to offer people an alternative in quality and clothing. Clothing that effects his or her attitude and clothing that hopefully makes people think. NASA has just opened its showroom for wholesale/retail and new and exclusive lines can be seen there. Reviews
FUSION Farnborough Recreation Centre: Sat 26th November '94 The IVth Dimension Arriving at Farnborough at 7.15 there was a huge queue all the way down the road we weren't looking forward to the wait. In the queue we got talking to a few regulars who said Fusion 3 was brilliant and they couldn't wait to get into Fusion's 4th Party at Farnborough. Amazingly the queue was dealt with quick and we got in by 7.35. At the door Security told us to get rid of our gum and the organisers were giving away free DJ Ramos tapes to anyone who made donations to "Children in need". maximum respect to the promoters for giving back to the punters, for charity . Inside one step and back two! What a set up, and the main hall seemingly filled up to its 3,000 capacity. Not one or two but three lighting towers, with three lighting trusts filled to the brim with Dataflash, Strobe flowers, terra strobes, Golden Scans and Arcline to name a few. Wondering further in DJ Vibes just finishes off and on steps DJ Druid starting with a stomper. As his set goes on druid Skillfully blends stompy techno and happy. The crowd is really jumping. The lasers then kick in and the crowd erupts as a white light laser merges with two green Argons sending beams across the main hall. After spending a little longer in the main room DJ Hype turns to the decks to start what becomes a light, bouncy Jungle set. we make a move to explore to room 2 where the young talents of DJ Vinylgroover, Pigbag, Supreme, Ratty and Swann-e. The room is sizeable with about 700 rocking in there. Back into the main room the M.C introduces the country's finest, DJ Slipmatt the biggest shout of the night goes up and a sea of hands regularly appear with a string of Piano Anthems and breakbeat classics. Spinning on we have a rare appearance from captain Attitude himself, Easygroove, Easygroove, Easygroove, (woo! woo! woo!) and Mc Robbie D. The B.P.M's increase and the crowd get to a fever pitch. By this time after getting over the shock of seeing so many people in for a 2 O'clock finish, we find the promoters Chris & Jeff who explain the atmosphere at fusion parties is always so electric and they can't wait to see what New Years eve allnighter will be like in there. Continuing to party on DJ Ramos and DJ Sy finish off in the main room keeping the crowd at boiling point and Smiles on everyone's face. A party as it should be, New Years eve is already booked in my diary. Acknowledgement to Fusion for doing things right! Review: Royston. THE SCENE MAGAZINES OVERALL OPINION OF FUSION:- Production (86%) Sound (85%) DJ's (95%) Venue (95%) Security (90%) A very good party with an overall rating of 91%. Look out for their New Years Eve party - We've been told by Fusion's promoters its going to be even better than this event & it's going to sell out quick. Interview
Troublesome Records One of the largest specialist Dance Music Record Shops in Surrey, Troublesome Records cater for all musical tastes with very knowledgeable staff & a massive collection of vinyl. We went to find out today all about the history of the Troublesome crew. When was the shop first started? It was first started 3 years ago! Where does the name come from? Terry who own's the shop – thought up the name – it doesn't really mean much – but it sounds underground & as we sell Underground Dance Music is suited us perfectly. What different types of music do you stock? We stock anything which is Underground – Jungle, Hardcore, Drum & Bass, House, Techno & Hard House. Why do you think Troublesome Records has been so successful? We look after our customers – we don't have an attitude with our customers – some shops do! Our motto is – if you look after people they will come back! Does Troublesome make any music? Yes, we've got our own label which is S.L.A.M. – named after our house night, at the moment we are producing House music on the label! What type of music sells best in your shop? Hardcore & Jungle is selling really well at the moment, House & Garage is starting to catch up with the Hardcore music – it's becoming as popular! What do you think of the Hardcore & Jungle scene at present? It's still going strong, I think a lot of the older people are more into House music – the younger people are more into Hardcore which is good – a new generation to keep the scene alive! What do you think of the House & Garage scene at present? It's thriving at the moment & it's continuing to grow! Some of it is becoming too commercial! The UK releases are really good at the moment – overall we'd say that on all House Music releases 50% is excellent & the other 50% is average. Have you any plans for the future? To get as many customers as possible & to keep doing as well as what we are. Have you thought of opening up another Troublesome? The shop is massive, it's probably the 5th largest record shop in London – we have thought about opening up another one, we may do end of 1995/96. And finally your shouts? All our customers, Brett & Sting, Phil & Mick, Terror & all Back 2 Basics crew Many thanks for your time Trevor & Steve. Troublesome Top Ten by Nick Dare & Matt Frost House & Garage 1. Interview
Labello Blanco Record Label Profile As one of the UK's most respected Jungle labels we thought it to be an absolute necessity to feature there story in our Christmas issue. When was Labello Blanco first formed? It was first started in 1991. Our first release was "Triple X" by Bug Kann & The Plastic Jam. How did it start? Bug Kann's manager owned a recording studio. Andy Swallow was using the studio to make music & met up with Bug Kann & Co. They worked together on certain projects & got along really well. Plastic Jam's "Made in 2 Minutes" reached No 65 in the national chart & Andy's "Feel The Rhythm" – New Class A done extremely well. Optimism Records picked up two unreleased tracks & then unfortunately went under. Optimism then released "Made in 2 Minutes" & went under again. We sold approximately 18,000 copies on White Label, our next project was on Cupido Disque which we released 3 tunes on – "Rude Boy", "Maniac Jack" & re-released "Feel The Rhythm" by New Class A. After Cupido Disque went under – we decided it was time to do our own label & run it how we wanted to run it – that's how it started! Where does the name "Labello Blanco" come from? Labello Blanco means White Label in Italian – as we were dealing with Italian's at the time we decided to use two Italian words for our labels name! How many releases a month do you have? 4-5 releases per month on average! Have you done any merchandise? Yes – we currently sell T-Shirts, Record Bags, Caps, Jumpers, Tracksuits, Condom Holders – you name it – Labello's got it! What different types of music do you put out? Andy & James Mac do P.W.L. which is the Dance music side of Labello, Jimmy does the Jungle part of Labello, Keith Mac does Labello Dance. Labello Trax is the Progressive & Techno side & Public Demand is our major label with main stream releases like Shades of Rhythm etc. There is also Public Demand Underground which is strictly American Style House, but its written & produced in England. What artists work for Labello? New Class A, Fran Sidolie, Ricky Morrison, Dr. S. Gachet, Smokey Jo, Rogue Unit, Lifting Spirits, Demolition Man, New Crew, Bug Kann, Shades of Rhythm, Keith Mac Project, Maltese Massive, Bootlegg Boys & Mandy Smith (The Model). Have you released any compilation albums? We have been doing Labello Christmas Packs which have sold well over the last 3 years. Our Jungle Massive Compilations 1 & 2 have done really well! Why do you think Labello's been so successful? Because we believe in what were doing & we've stuck at it! We are not a bedroom type label – we are a mini-major structured record company! Being able to pay bills & artists is very important – some labels are not able to do this! We have always given people good value for money & we have been in the Jungle scene since the beginning of 1991! What DJ's do you use to promote your records? We use Mickey Finn, Dr S. Gachet, Jumping Jack Frost, Brockie, DJ Randall, L. J. T. Bukem & Kenny Ken. If any other DJ's want to promote our records contact Jimmy at our office! What are your plans for the future? Next year we've got some major releases – look out for Jungle Massive 3, Urban Shakedown, Mickey Finn & L Double (Rogue Unit Remixes), Demolition Man "Fire", Top Cat "Bag of Worries". We want to expand even more in 1995 & continue in putting out good music – to break the national charts with credible records & not forgetting our roots – From The Underground! Finally your shouts? First & foremost all the people who owe us money! Everyone who has supported the cause – shops, distributors, DJ's & most of all the punters! To contact Labello Blanco phone Jimmy on (071) 403-007 or (071) 403-8141, (0585) 403888. STOP PRESS!!! STOP PRESS!!! Look out for The Centreforce FM re-union party for all the people from that era!
