He did a hard trance (?!?) set and a killer hardcore set. Much respect to Dego and Reinforced! PHOTO BY KINGSIZE Welcome all Junglists, Hardcore fans and worshippers of the almighty Breakbeat! Whether you've been long time into the breaks or just discovering the funky hardcore for the first time, this 'zine is for you! The sole purpose of this publication is the promotion of the music we love and call Hardcore in Orlando, Florida and everywhere else in America. This magazine will be distributed in Canada & the U.K. as well as America. Hopefully we'll be able to connect hardcore people to hardcore people and give

Feature
the music a jumpstart in scenes that need it, while keeping the vibe strong in cities that are thriving. Orlando definitely needs a jumpstart. Let Junglized know if you're tired of paying big $$ to hear every DJ play the same style of two year old tunes with rotten mixing to boot. Alot of that happens in Orlando. Let the promoters know you wanna hear something different. Don't support the clubs and events that aren't giving you the real 'new music'! Let 'em know what's going down in the UK, Toronto and the big cities of the U.S. like Chicago, Cleveland, Houston & New York. We gotta get the promoters up-to-date and down with jungle, cause no one else will. If enough junglists (we know you're out there) band together, spread the vibe and use our resources...WE CAN GET SOMETHING SERIOUSLY STARTED! Imagine a rave and club scene that focused more on the music and DJ's that focused more on the mixes and bringing you hottest underground music. That's what jungle is about. That's what hardcore has always been about. Some more 'overground' musics seem to attract high door prices, no record mixing pride and DJ's who obviously spent their big weekly paycheck on something other than new records. We can rise above that nonsense. Spread the word...don't settle for anything other than diversity. If you don't wanna hear the same music style all night long - SPEAK UP! That's what Junglized is for! If you're fed-up, let us know you're out there, 'cause we're out there too...and we're ready for a change. -Junglized JUNGLIZED INFO ZINE IS AVAILABLE ON A MOSTLY MONTHLY BASIS AND IS ABSOLUTELY FREE THROUGHOUT THE US, UK AND CANADA AT UNDERGROUND RECORD & CLOTHING STORES OR BY MAIL TO JOIN THE MAILING LIST PLEASE WRITE TO: JUNGLIZED 7904 PINE CROSSING CIRCLE #815 ORLANDO, FLORIDA 32825 YOU MAY SEND ALL INFO, RECORDS, D.J. ELLIS DEE / BIG UP YOUR CHEST / ONE SIDER / DJ PROMO ELLIS DEE - Big Up Your Chest This one gets top billing not because of the sunny yellow vinyl this baby's pressed on, but for it's wonderful blending of moody strings rolling into the catchy ragga chanting of the title phrase and finished up with a well-timed "Yeah"! Can't get this one-sided promo outta yo' head for hours after hearing. X-tra Strong release (as usual). (Jeffee) DJ SPARKS - Hang Dem High (Yaw) Wicked, groovy disc with all the cool elements: reggae horn loop, catchy reggae toaster refrain, "Ahh Junglists" sample, what else do you need? Oh yeah, a beat. This records got a cookin' one.. or ones. Dancy, cut-up jungle breakbeats make for a great record.(Jeffee) KINETIC - Girl If Ever Remix(Boogie Beat) Geez, I was never a big fan of the original 1993 record. The beats seemed stuck in first gear and the title sample was too much on the cheesy side. Well, it's back for 1994 sporting a Jonny L. remix that's not much different than the old version. Aside from some speeded-up, pitch-shifted beats and a one ragga vocal sample, it's the same as the original. The B-side has a crowd-pleaser R & B vocal sample, but the beats aren't up to par, so don't spend too much time in this one. (K.O.T.T.) TDK- White Lable (TDK) This one's been out for a while. Known for it's big sample of Tony, Toni, Tone's "It Never Rains in Southern California" that turned what seemed to be a basic ragga sampling song into a rare-grooving monster. B-side track one is another ragga sample extravaganza, while track two is a nice old school, easy to mix tune with 'dope' scratchin'.(K.O.T.T.) BUNSENS BURNERS - Vol. 1 Atmospheric drum and bass with emphasis on atmospheric and drums. Long keyboard riffs, reminiscent of Pet Shop Boys minor chords, blend with quick trebly beats and the occasional female voice sample and rare groove loop. Side B of this 3 track EP samples 808 State's "Pacific". Nice Vol I, looking forward to Vol. II. (Jeffee) KING OF THE JUNGLE- • Lovable Remix Pt. 2 • The Horn Ep (King of the Jungle) This lable is LIVE!! The fiercest drum and bass from DJ Dextrous & Rude Boy Keith! This stuff ain't just dark, it ain't all happy. It's kinda beyond. Lovable Remix is a beefed up version of the classic origional. The B-side, 'Musically Abstract' starts off with a Big Band sound and ends up like a loungy jazz pianist. Nice & relaxed "hypnotizing music" vocal samples and smooth, rolling bassline. Love it. You find out pretty quickly why they call it The Horn EP, 'I Salute the Kings' has a royal intro that breaks into killer jungle rhythms and Barrington Levy samples. Other songs on this 4-tracker have elements of jazz, R & B and Booyaka, all used intelligently, making them listenable at home & definitely dancefloor groovers. There should be Horn EP Remixes out by the time you read this. Two big scores for Dex & Keith! (Jeffee) all reviews by dj jeffee & the knights of the turntable

record iews DJ PHANTASY- The Nu Groove (Liquid Wax Recordings) Wow! Two quality tracks from Liquid Wax! Side A is the DJ Phantasy Original Mix which stands totally on its own. But wait, side B's got DJ Hype's remix! I'll tell ya I have real trouble deciding which side to play. Both mixes have ringy chimes and 'giggle stick' keyboards surrounded by hard, dancy and cut-up breakbeats. Hype's mix plays on a "I don't know what's wrong with these children today..." sample that sounds cheesy when written down, but actually works in the song. Phantasy's side let's you concentrate on the catchy keyboard hook. Can't go wrong with this record at all. (Jeffee) APHRODITE - The Navigator / Beautiful Bass (Aphrodite) The airplane drawing circling around the label gives ideas of what this record's all about. The Navigator takes you from the ground to the stratosphere and back down again. Drop outs, mega-jungle beats, lovely keys and the pilot himself flying you thru the A-side. The flip's on the dark side with a ragga vocal squeezed in. (Jeffee) QUAYSIDE RECORDS NICKY BLACKMARKET & FORMULA 7 - Maniacs Vol. 1 (Quayside) Starting off on the dark tip, the A-side "Maniacs" two-chord keyboard builds on a series of "yeah's" and "feel the rhythm" female vocal samples. But it's "Spiritual Feelings" on side-B that stands tall. Uplifting keys this time blend into off sounding 'deh do do do' samples and a high-hat stopping breakbeat. Serious stuff. (K.O.T.T.) DJ BASS - Take A Lick / Pushing Me (FB) Excellent 'sensi...' ragga sample with 'take a lick' repeating in the background. Chopped jungle beats in y'r face. Top stuff. (Jeffee) MOVING SHADOW WORLD DOMINATION DJ TRAX - High Time (Nookie Remixes) ASCENDANT & ULTRA - 12 O'Clock Natty (Moving Shadow) The "High Time" girl vocal sample in Rob Playford's DJ Trax records could quite possibly be the greatest hook ever in a hardcore tune. Nookie has always had a knack for exploiting catchy parts and building the track around it. This is what they've done here, to maximum effect! Dreamy key chords meet-up with textbook Nookie drum drops for one of the sweetest grooves around. The Ascendant & Ultra record has been going around under the names "Dead Dread" & "Dread Bass" in promo form. Nice backward bass loops, gunshots and fierce machine gun drum rolls add up to a wicked jungle sound not usually found on Moving Shadow. The quick drop-outs feature a "What da time you have there dread?" sample from Dr. Alimentado's "Poison Flour" all pitch-shifted, then it's back to that rollin' bassline. Totally fine record. (Jeffee) THE CENTURIONS - Sandman (Mask) Boy this one leads-off with a promising ruff ragga sample and goes downhill from there. Long, drawn-out, straight breakbeats followed by a B-movie scary sample starts my attention wandering. Poor, bass-heavy pressing on top of that. Next...(Jeffee) DJ DEXTROUS/PASCAL - Johnny Jungle '94 (Suburban Bass) Whoa! Every 'johnny' sample known to man is packed into the Dextrous side with the killer, cut-up breax we've come to expect from Dex. Pascal is Johnny Jungle and his original '94 mix is ferocious as well. "I'm back," taunts johnny, then he gets down to business. This is part 1 of a 3 part series. (Jeffee) 7

from the st. petersburg, fl massive... DJ dread's top picks the darkside... 007 - Undercover EP (Formation) 007 and DJSS give us four very unique tracks, although not all of them work. This is formation's new sound that can make you move on the dancefloor. 'Time Travel' starts out with quick snare beats then it breaks down with a very lovable piano laid over the bassline. Tribal drums an d vocal samples lead you to the ripping core. DJ Taktik - All The Way Up Remix (Breakdown) Brilliantly interesting drum patterns are the basis of this tune. Female vocals and an MC sample tie it all together. This one's a big hit on my tables. Gangsta Kid EP - Shy FX & Gunsmoke (Gangsta Productions) This one goes out to all the Rude Bwoi and Ruffneck crew. The first track talks about gangstas, not the gangsta rappin', but the hardcore gangstas. The whole EP has class. Andre Shy keep rolling the beats! DJ Rooster - (Bog Woppa Records) This one, oh my god! This track will set the night on for a floor burn! If you don't got it, get it, my mates. Bizzy B and Cool Hand Flex - (Brain Records) These guys bring you two brilliant tracks...there's no excuse not to have this in your record crate! Still in Bizz: DJ Seduction - Everybody; Jay D. DEMOS This column will (hopefully) be a monthly thing, so send us those killer tracks you've been working on! There's plenty of labels out there looking for talent and signing crap! (You've gotten a bad record before, eh?) So this column will be more for the promotion of unsigned music as opposed to the criticizing of it. (Although if it's crap there's not much we can do...) Oh yeah, send us some info & photos as well. •kingsize• 'cosmo' ep Don't be fooled by the fact that this Kingsize cassette is filed into the 'demo' section of this magazine...the music is not in demo form at all, in fact, it's ready to go...directly to vinyl. The ideal vinyl to put this EP on might be the Moving Shadow/Lucky Spin type, although the seven tunes here don't fit either's specific style, it's just the closest that comes to mind. The title cut, featured in remixed form as 'Cosmo 2', takes off into an odyssey of spacy sounds and dreamy voice samples that offset the wickedly chopped breakbeats very nicely. The various drops and breaks throughout the song are there only to build up what's coming next, as opposed to bringing you down from what just happened. Next is 'Butterfly', a song that has you so hooked on the descending tiny bell sound, it's easy to forget you're listening to a hardcore tune. The rise and fall of the bassline makes the whole picture fall into place....meaning this song, 'Butterfly', evokes thoughts in the mind of exactly that - butterflies! When listening to 'Tikatooryde', a swirling song built around the Carpenters' version of 'Ticket To Ride' you start to figure out that Kingsize isn't about making hardcore tracks, it's about making music. Music you can dance to, music you can listen to at home. Proof that you do not have to be British and you don't have to borrow any U.K. style to make hardcore tracks. This cassette definitely deserves to see vinyl .
